Salento has long been one of the most famous tourist destinations in Italy and is now internationally renowned for its artistic, historical and natural beauties. It is traditionally a popular attraction for summer tourism, thanks to the enchanting beauty of its pristine sea and white beaches, as well as its coastline including all different types of landscape. However, its mild climate, the great variety of its artistic heritage and the natural beauties of its countryside provide perfect conditions for a year-round tourism. We offer itineraries focused on history, art and culture, as well as tours that will allow you to immerse yourself in its unspoiled nature and local traditions, starting from its renowned food and wine culture whose excellence is internationally recognized.
We start visiting Lecce, the ancient Lupiae, today called “the Florence of the South”, which will enchant you for the richness and beauty of its monuments, especially from the Baroque period, but also for its historical and archaeological evidence dating back to the Messapians and the ancient Romans; we will continue towards Otranto, the ancient Hydruntum, a UNESCO world heritage site classified among the most beautiful villages in Italy, a true gateway to the East from which the snow-capped mountains of Albania can be seen in the distance. Its historic centre is really enchanting: it winds through a myriad of alleys and craft shops dominated by the imposing silhouette of the Castle and the Norman Cathedral which contains the remains of the martyrs killed in 1480 during an Ottoman attack since they refused to convert to Islam; we will then arrive in Gallipoli, the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea”, which derives its name from the Greek word Kallipolis, the beautiful city, where in a hypnotic atmosphere you will admire the historic old town and the Castle which seems to rise from the sea.
